The Village of Lake Orion receives a portion of the State of Michigan gas and weight taxes paid at the gas pump to maintain its streets in accordance with Michigan Public Act 51 of 1951, as amended.  Village streets are classified by the state as either Major Streets or Local Streets for funding purposes.  The Village owns and maintains a total of 11.59 miles of streets, of which 2.74 miles are Major Streets and 8.85 miles are Local Streets.  The Lake Orion Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the Village's street system.

The Village is currently completing its condition (PASER) ratings of its streets as well as a Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) to identify the street rehabilitation or reconstruction needs of the community and to prepare a comprehensive capital improvement program for addressing those needs.
