Parks and Recreation

Lake Orion Map

The Village of Lake Orion parks and recreation operations are a division of the Department of Public Works.  The village prides itself on its park and recreation system, as a robust recreational program contributes to a healthier community. The Village of Lake Orion and Orion Township cooperatively offer a swim program and classes at Green’s Park in the summer generally lasting six to ten weeks for both children and adults.

The benefits of creating and maintaining quality parks and recreation system include:

  • Greater opportunities for a healthy lifestyle
  • Natural beauty
  • Environmental gains and benefits
  • Social and fun
  • Sense of place and identity

All of the Village's facilities have accessibility ratings of 2, 3, or 4, with the exception of Unger Park which carries an accessibility ranking of 1 due to the grade change and lack of paved surfaces to access any features within the park.

While most of the recreation facilities include elements that are handicapped accessible, many of the routes to reach such facilities are lacking in compliance.
